A recent Fuji X portrait shoot

Fuji X portrait shoot

One of the great joys of being a photographer is doing portrait photography. It is especially more fun and rewarding when shooting a Fuji X portrait shoot with the Fuji cameras. I recently met with a client and professional musician called Sarah. The only remit was to capture her with her saxophone. Her aim was to be able to use the images for her musical promotions afterwards; flyers, web use etc. We agreed on a castle location and had a lot of fun making images.

The muted textures of an old castle make for a perfect backdrop.

Medieval window arches make great seating areas.

Sarah’s hair apparently often changes colour and her choice colour for the shoot fitted well against the pastel hues of the wall.

I liked the backlighting in the window – careful metering needed.

Thought processes

The shadow of the alcove created an ambience as Sarah is lost in her thoughts.

Spotlight on the Sax player!

Only natural light needed (plus a reflector of course!)

The camera doesn’t lie?

Not true – A casual and relaxed look but Sarah was not comfortable on those Castle steps.

… and the mellow Sax

Framed by the medieval door frame, the backlit and soft focus background added the contrast.

Perfect harmony

This is by far my favourite image from the shoot. Sarah’s hair could not have matched the surrounding colours better.

The black & white Acros film simulation added a timeless feel.

Play it again, Sarah – in monotone!

A contrasting favourite

Looks good in black & white too!
