Corfe Castle – The Isle of Purbeck

Dorset’s east Jurassic coast is one of the most scenic and spectacular coastlines in the country, boasting classic photographic locations like Kimmeridge Bay, Worbarrow Bay, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and Old Harry Rocks.

Internationally renowned as an area of natural beauty and scientific importance, the diversity of locations cannot fail to whet the appetite of any keen landscape photographer. Corfe Castle alone is a mecca for photographers worldwide and sits proudly at the centre of the Isle of Purbeck (often known as the Purbecks).  This workshop is based central to the village of Corfe and includes a whole day of shared guidance in landscape photography. All levels are welcome, whether you are a beginner or an experienced photographer. The atmosphere is relaxed and ideally suited to photographers wishing to be creative in their landscape photography. Having lived in and photographed Dorset all his life Tony has an unrivalled knowledge of its best locations. He is also a very  experienced and  enthusiastic tutor and will be on hand at all times to offer help and guidance, with particular attention paid to composition, lens choices and using filters. We also look at controlling long exposures for the creative effect.

We begin the day by meeting up at Wareham, a small town on the Isle of Purbeck and not too far from Corfe Castle. This area is very picturesque and is considered to be the gateway to the Jurassic coast. At this point you leave your own vehicle as transport is provided to the shoot locations. During the course of the day we aim to shoot a minimum of three, sometimes four locations – only stopping at lunchtime on location to eat our packed lunch. Coastal locations will be chosen from the list above. The tides and weather can be different every day of the year, so no matter how many times you visit a location, the one thing guaranteed is ‘something different’. During the day we stop for drinks and refreshments as needed. We will take this opportunity to chat about good landscape photography techniques, camera settings and the importance of correct exposure and getting it right ‘in camera’. The day aims to be between 8 and 9 hours in duration, including travel, although it can sometimes over-run if we are treated to an afterglow on the coast at sunset. The day finishes back at Wareham after the sunset shoot. Small groups guaranteed – max 4 photographers!
